Animal Abuse – Something Has To Be Done!

It seems like every time I turn around, there is another case of Animal Abuse in the news.  Something has to be done, and in my opinion, it starts with tougher penalties.   Something should also be done to the Provincial Animal Protection Act.  This act is supposed to protect animals, but in many ways it’s a joke.

If a person shoots a moose in the province of Newfoundland, out of season, even if it is to feed his family, he is heavily fined, loses his truck, and possibly jailed.   Fines for abusing animals start at $50 in this province.   It was Gandhi who said ‘The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated’.    What does it say about us that so many animal abusers are allowed to get away with it.  And if they are charged, fines start at a measly $50.  Moral progress, I don’t think so.

So let’s petition government.  Here in Newfoundland it is Natural Resources Minister Kathy Dunderdale.  Let’s get this act changed and let’s crack down on the monsters who abuse animals.  Go to an SPCA website and sign the petitions.   here’s one web address you can use for the St. John’s SPCA.  http://www.spcastjohns.org/
