It’s the First Day of Summer!

Posted in Uncategorized on June 21, 2010 by darmyers

Welcome to Summer 2010.  Today is June 21st.  The first day of summer.  Where I am now its raining, foggy and a little cold.  And its Monday, so it does feel like the longest day of the year!  Ha, only kidding.

However, I love the first day of summer.  I love the longer days and sitting out on the patio, and barbecuing and everything else that goes with summer.  Ok, I don’t like the bugs, but unless you’re an entomologist, who does.  What are you doing this summer.  There is so much happening in Newfoundland and Labrador this summer, I don’t think there will be one boring moment.

Cupids 400 is a year long celebration with something for everyone.  Festivals and concerts are happening across the province, A Time in Pigeon Inlet returns this summer.  Plus there’s all the free stuff to do in Newfoundland.  I hiked Mad Rock again this past weekend, and I loved it.  Keep in mind there are walking trails and hiking trails all across the island with spectacular views.  Take advantage – it’s free!

Get out and explore this great island.  One of the things I didn’t get to do last year was the Cape St. Mary’s Bird Sanctuary, so that’s on the list this year, as well as bunch of other events.

Enjoy – Summer is extremely short and sweet in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Summer Reading!

With the Summer Season upon us, many people like to take the time to read.  I have read a few good books lately that I wanted to share with you.

Number 1 on the list is Harlan Coben and Long Lost.  I have read every single one of his books, and I love them all.  But my favorites have to be the Myron Bolitar series featuring the unforgettable cast of characters (my favorite being Win) This book should only be started if you have nothing else that needs to be done that day, because once you start, you won’t be able to put it down.

I just finished Erich Segal’s book, Only Love.  I believe this came out in 1997 from the author of the Love Story, however, I only just read it.  And it was an easy to read good book.   Great summer reading.  I may have to pick up more of his books, knowing of course he passed away in January of this year.  Oh, by the way, they made a movie of this book, but I haven’t seen it yet.

And I’ll finish this up with Linwood Barclay ‘Too Close to Home”.  First Linwood Barclay book I have read, and I can’t wait to get my hands on more.  I LOVED it!  On the cover of this book, it said ‘if you love Harlan Coben, you’ll love Linwood Barclay” and they were right.  Couldn’t put it down.  Have you read Linwood Barclay yet?  If you have, please share with me your favorite book.

Gotta go – Enjoy the read
